The Foundation of Our Lives

In the sermon on the mount, Jesus tells many lessons and stories to his listeners to give them a bit of insight into the kingdom of God and what it means to be a believer. During His sermon He talks about what it means to put into practice the words of Christ. That those who practice His words are like someone who builds their house on the rock and those who do not put His words into practice are like someone who builds their house in the sand. When rain comes the house on the sand is demolished but the one who builds their house on the rock stands firm.

What are you building your life on?

It is important to remember that we are building our lives on the good practices of Jesus’ words, but what else are we building our lives on? When you look back on your life, what do you remember the most, the things that you did, or the people that impacted your life?

Our church has such a beautiful way of deepening friendships and growing our family as if we are each in one great big family. Families are made up of all different and unique people. You’ve got parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and kids of all different ages. We all build our identities on different things that unify us together in Christ. But one of the greatest unifying things is people.

How are you creating a foundation in your life with the people around you? How are you helping others create a foundation by being there for them?

Go out of your way this fall and meet someone new at our church. I encourage you to do so with someone in a different generation than you. Ask them their name, what things are important to them, and what they love to do.
