That “Yes”…

Gloria Gonzales

I believe it was November of 2008 when I received a phone call from Lynn Harms asking if we could meet to discuss the opportunity to serve on the Children’s Home Board of Directors. I was both surprised and honored. I knew of Lynn and of the Home, but not really. I was intrigued to learn more and wondered if perhaps my love for children and education background could positively impact the mission in some way. Knowing I had the support of my family, I agreed and said “Yes!”.

That “yes” has blessed me with the opportunity to serve four terms over the last thirteen years and become even more aware of the incredible work that staff at the Children’s Home do. Their dedication and creativity remain unmatched as they navigate through challenges daily, with much beyond their control.

“Manifesting Christ through excellence in childcare” is a mission statement that is truly lived out at the Home. The staff make it a priority to meet the spiritual needs of the children in addition to their physical, social, and emotional needs. House parents take the children to church regularly with a focus on spiritual growth. Many of us have witnessed and loved on some of these precious children throughout the years in the church nursery, bible classes, and worship service. I love that our Broadway family embraces and welcomes every child to church, no matter what.

The Children’s Home of Lubbock would not be in existence without the forethought and commitment made by Broadway so many years ago. Year after year I see our community, and especially our Broadway family, meet those needs with gifts and resources that bless the children we are called to serve. Together we can continue to be intentional about showing “the least of these” the love of Christ.

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all it’s many parts forms one body, so it is with Christ.”
1 Corinthians 12:12
